We're Here...

Well, we've been in Hood River for about 54 hours now.  Here's what we've been doing, bullet-point style:

Thursday:

-  arrived in town around 4pm.  Had to make one stop to clean up the barf from the dog in the car.  At least she didn't poop - I gave her a sedative which totally made her chill out in the car.

-  stopped at Sears to sign for my washer and dryer.

-  unloaded our stuff

-  i have no idea what we did for dinner.  frankly, i don't remember much of Thursday.  oh Wait!  I just remembered... we went our for Chinese food - it was awesome

Friday:

- up at 8am for the internet/phone guy to get us hooked up.  that was brutal (getting up at 8am)

-  10:30am the washer/dryer arrive

- lots of wandering around the house trying to figure out where to start unpacking

- went downtown for lunch.  bad pizza.  and a beer.  at 11:30am.  I had lost all sense of time and had no idea how early it was. oh well.

-  trip to Walmart (ick).  and i'm not saying that to be mean.  i just don't like it.  hard to find stuff - not a great selection, crowded...

- back to Sears to buy a lawn mower. 

- then Walmart again, this time with Kirk, which made it fun.

-  grocery store  (ate dinner at home!)

-  Kirk to the kids to the river and then to the Narnia movie and I spent the evening working on getting our bedroom put away.

Saturday:

-  up at 8am AGAIN.  This time for the DISH guy - who, btw, was SUPER nice - i tried to tip him (he was here for 3 hours) and he refused to take it - he was just a super nice guy

-  more wandering around the house

-  wandering...

-  went to pick hayden up.. he has been riding all over town on his scooter and this morning went to the libaray (got a library card) then went down to the Saturday Market (all by himself!).  I was at the store and he calls me...  He has to go up a big hill to get to our house and it was already really warm out so I gave him a lift home.

-  watched Kirk mow the lawn

-  drove to The Dalles to hit Fred Meyer cuz Walmart just isn't cutting it.

-  got home and put some more stuff away - got ready for dinner

-  went to dinner with Kirk on the waterfront.  PERFECT weather.  it was awesome.

Tomorrow we are staying home all day to get the boys rooms and the kitchen dialed in.  I'm not expecting perfection... I just want stuff cleared out of the way. 

And that's what we've been doing. :)

I'm too old for this...

I am currently laying on the floor of a bedroom in the Hood River house.  Nate and the dog are next to me, both snoring.  Judging by the way my body feels already, I will probably have to crawl to the kitchen in the morning.  I am waaaaay to old to be laying on the floor for 10 hours.  With all the padding my body carries, you'd think it'd be like sleeping on a Temperpedic Mattress.

Nate and I came up to paint the living room.  Currently the color is this Tuscan yellow, which is fine I guess.  There's just too much of it.  I am color/decorator challenged.  And lazy.  I spent about an hour at Miller Paint this morning trying to decide what color to do, ended up with Devine Macadamia which is WAAAAY to light... so I will be headed back to the paint store tomorrow to get something with some color in it.  Couple other stumbling blocks:  Kirk isn't here, and I need him to do the hard work.  And, there isn't a Miller Paint in Hood River, so I can't do anything about it anyway.

Ugh.

This was not an easy week for me.  Kirk has a major major deadline at work and doesn't have time to even IM me.  (I know, I know... get over it... but I actually LIKE my husband and when he's not around I miss him.)  Anyway, it was just a long week.  On Monday night Hayden accidentally spilled a glass of Cran-Cherry juice on our new carpet. Ever tried to get a stain like that out?  at 10:30 at night when all you want to do is be asleep?  And, have it happen the week before you sign your house over to new owners, who, by the way, probably don't WANT a red stain on the new carpet of their new home?  Good times... good times.

Then last night, I went to turn the heat down, and the digital display on the thermostat had disappeared.  ummm..?  How does THAT happen?  Again, at 10:30 at night when I want to go to sleep.  Kirk was home (but working) so I went online to find out how to troubleshoot... then I got scared that the gas that lights the furnace would be leaking and we'd blow to high heaven in the middle of the night.  Finally learned that there's an on/off switch on the furnace and sent Kirk down to see if it had somehow gotten switched off.  Sure enough, that was the issue.  Still not sure how that happened because our furnace hangs from the ceiling in the garage...

Today I went out to get the mail only to discover bright pink notice in our box, with no mail.  The notice informed me that our house is now "vacant" and if we are the new occupants, we need to notify them.

?

Actually, what happened was our lovely mail carrier stopped our mail a week early.  And when I called the post office at 3:30pm asking what was up with this, the gal said that our carrier "must've gotten ahead of herself" and stopped the mail.  I said, ok.  Can she bring it to us today? since this wasn't our error?... negatory.  She's gone home.

How nice.

BUT on the bright side, I stopped and picked up the new book from my most favorite author - so the week wasn't a TOTAL drag.

So, tomorrow morning Nate and I will pack up camp, go have breakfast and head home. He might have to drive since I'm doubting I'll be able to walk upright.
